Looks like we made it

Important events have been bursting before us like bubbles in a bathtub. Your First Birthday- Homerun. It was everything I wanted it to be for you. Since it was on a Monday this year, we got to celebrate the whole weekend. We had a perfect and intimate birthday party for you. All that was missing was the rest of the family, and do we ever miss them. Your birthday cake was a true labor of love. Dad and I worked on it for days. First came the test run, and on the day before the party came the real deal. The final version was perfection (after Dad made a late night run to the store for 2 more boxes of cake mix to make up for some uneven-ness and stickage). It was all so worth it.

Dad was in charge of the construction and I was in charge of decor. You were so much fun to watch. I wonder if you will ever watch and rewatch the videos we made of you politely and neatly making your mark on the cake? It makes for some pretty great programming if you ask me.

On the actual day of your birth, we went and visited the spot where we first met---Little Company of Mary where you came into the world. You were born hereI had no idea I would feel so much. I saw the same spot through different eyes- the eyes of a real, honest to goodness Mother, after you came with your magic wand and made me into a Momma. The gift of the past year has changed me. You've made a mark so big that the Grand Canyon would look like a speck if compared.

One year later
June 7th, 2010 was a sweet, exciting, nostalgic day. It was full of hope for everything this next year will bring, it was twinged with sadness- where did the time go? Why can't I hold that teeny tiny boy just one more time? And most importantly it was filled with enjoying the moment bliss.
Thank you for an amazing year.

And lastly, we made it to Fresno. The move is finally over, and the relief of that is like a waterfall of relaxation in my head. It was looming for so long. Actual moving day is never a treat. After a painstakingly slow 4 hour load, Dad, me, you, Jack, Belle and the fish made the 4 1/2 hour drive to this place that we now call home. We didn't arrive until 8pm on Saturday night and since your bedtime is 7:30 we were gambling with the clock.

PhotobucketOnly 5 days later I can honestly say we feel settled. It is now official, I am a stay at home mom, a phrase that sounds so not me, so grown up, and yet so old fashioned that I can't say it without giggling. It feels exactly the same as maternity leave did, much like I'm just using a few vacation days from work and I have to go back on Monday.
So now it's you and me kiddo. Our days have been spent walking the dogs, going to the store, unpacking and organizing the house and going to the pool. Ahhhh, the pool....One of our favorite things about this joint. Now you have a truly gigantic bathtub to frolic in--and frolic you do. I think you must take swim lessons in your sleep? You aren't afraid of a thing, including being under water. In fact, you prefer it- face and everything.
We live on a beautiful tree lined street and as we run with Jack and Belle in the morning I ask myself- Is this real? Is this all really mine? You....the warm summer heat, all this time with you.....I soak it all up and take it all in...........
